Pronouns and possessive determiners are very common words. Here is what you should know about them:
- What is a pronoun? It is a word you use instead of a noun. You use it instead of the name of a thing, person or place.
- When do you use a pronoun? You use it instead of a noun in a sentence. That way, you do not have to repeat the name of the noun all the time. Instead of saying Tina is nice, you can say She is nice.
- What is a possessive determiner? It is a word that stands before a noun to show who the noun belongs to. It shows possession, and that is why it is called possessive.
- When do you use a possessive determiner? You use it to show that something belongs to someone. Instead of saying This is Tina's suitcase, you can say This is her suitcase.
For examples of pronouns and possessive determiners, look at the table below:
Tina's best vacation yet was a trip to London. She went there last summer with her family. She loved that vacation, because they got to ride the London Eye.
